Their beliefs about what’s “cool” were similar regardless of where the study participants lived, and despite differences in age, income level, education or gender. “What blew my mind was the fact that it was pretty much the same result everywhere,” said Caleb Warren, one of the authors of the study and a professor at the Eller College of Management at the University of Arizona who has researched consumer psychology for two decades.Six traits can determine your ‘it’ factor, according to researchers who measured coolness around the globe. In the study, each participant had to recognize the word “cool” in English, without translation, suggesting that they were already familiar with — or maybe even idolized — notions of coolness from wealthy Western countries like the United States. While the cool and good people had overlapping traits, compared with their cool counterparts, good people were perceived as more conforming, traditional, secure, warm, agreeable, universalistic (the extent to which a person sees everyone and everything as being equal or equally worthy of care and respect), conscientious and calm.

The Best Cooling Mattresses 2025, Tested By Sleep Experts - Forbes Vetted

In a group-testing scenario with five different people, our team tried the firm model and calls it a good choice for a variety of sleeping positions. And when I tested the mattress myself, I noticed the cover is cool to the touch and I can see this bed helping to regulate temperature. Several of these foam layers also contain cooling gel. After talking to my parents, who have slept on this mattress for over six years, I found those initial testing results held up: Both of my parents have found relief from back and hip pain after sleeping on it.In my experience, memory foam and cooling usually don’t belong in the same sentence. But after testing the Ghostbed Luxe, we’re OK with making an exception. The outer layers of the bed consist of a cooling cover made with temperature-regulating fibers and a layer of gel memory foam, which helps to pull heat away from your body.“My spine feels aligned and there’s no discomfort.” While you can’t choose from three firmness levels like other hybrids on this list, we don’t think you need to: Its balanced, medium-firm feel can accommodate side sleepers and other sleep postures. The Helix Midnight Luxe with the GlacioTex Cover impressed our testers.Alexandra Garrett for Forbes · As for the Midnight Luxe’s cooling abilities, one of the foam layers contains a cooling copper infusion, the coils promote plenty of airflow and the pillow top is made from a breathable Tencel material.“Hot and cold sleepers should really enjoy this bed, especially if your needs are different than your partner’s. The cooling function is unlike anything I’ve seen on another mattress, and I found it to be very effective in my testing,” says Dillion in her Sleep Number Climate360 review.

Cool individuals, perceived as autonomous and indifferent to societal expectations, challenge norms and drive cultural change globally. While goodness requires effort, coolness is defined by an effortless 'not trying' attitude, making it difficult to fake. But according to the cool-sounding study, 'Cool People', published in Journal of Experimental Psychology: General, what constitutes coolness is more or less universal, never mind culture, country or school. Very much unlike 'goodness'. Coolness, from Guadalajara and Gurgaon to Dantewada and Dunedin, does not ask you to be kind, it asks if your sunglasses reflect existential disinterest. But there are some overlapping traits. The former is marked by the art of 'not trying'. You can fake goodness (ask any politician). But you cannot fake cool (don't ask Dev Anand). The moment you try, you'll be square. The study finds that irrespective of culture, cool people are perceived as more autonomous, uninterested in what other people think (even if they are interested), and less duty-/rule-driven.

Electric Cooler vs. Ice Cooler: I Went Camping With Both to See Which Is Better - CNET

If I'm being completely honest, the pop-up handle seems super flimsy. I was nervous about using it to roll the cooler around fully loaded but the picture on the website shows it being used that way, so I figured it would be fine. I figured correctly, much to my surprise. On the other hand, the EverFrost 2 is expensive and none of those things really justify the extra money in my mind. Of course, your mileage may vary. But if you're wondering which cooler I'll recommend for your next camping trip, it's the RTIC cooler. Electrification is pretty cool and you can't deny the fact that the EverFrost 2 cooler is handy. Here's what I discovered about performance, longevity, cooling capability and portability during my testing. What's better, an electric cooler or the traditional icebox when you're outdoors? I tested the Anker Solix EverFrost 2 against the RTIC Ultra-Tough Cooler to find out.I've observed that the electrification of any product brings with it a higher price for interested buyers. Case in point, everything from cars to bikes to coolers, once electrified, costs a lot more than their legacy counterparts.

A keen camper and festival goer, I’ve learned the hard way that a decent cool box can make or break a trip. With a background in biology, I’m also acutely aware of the risks of food poisoning from ill-stored sausages and suspect coleslaw. So I put my scientific mind to devising a battery of tests to separate the coolest coolers from the lukewarm letdowns.Milking it: few things can test cool boxes’ chilling abilities like good old dairy. Photograph: Linda Geddes/The Guardian · Ice retention, temperature consistency, portability and durability: I put all these metrics to the test. But my first (and most important) criteria was how long each cooler stayed cool.I used digital wireless thermometers to monitor the temperature inside the cool boxes, and each box was opened every four hours and after being left overnight to recreate the comings and goings of a campsite cook. My shortlisted cool boxes were then half filled with ice cubes, and I timed how long it took for these to completely melt.I also loaded up this cool box and took it to a festival for four days with only four medium ice blocks, and my food still felt acceptably cool by the end of it – although I’d have needed additional ice if camping for any longer than this.
